Addressing a changing market, a minute with NSW NextGen Committee Chair Ashleigh Kable (Clayton Utz)

TMA Member Profile

What makes the TMA Australia great?
TMA Australia has an incredibly diverse membership base, which results in meaningful networking opportunities at TMA events.   TMA Australia also prides itself on being a thought leader in the turnaround space, hosting events that are focused on cutting edge developments and trends. These factors together make TMA Australia an industry body that is worth being a part of.

Why or how did you get involved in TMA?
Some years back, I was invited to the annual TMA conference as a last-minute recruit and was incredibly impressed by the calibre of the speakers and relevance of the topics discussed. From then on, I regularly attended TMA events and eventually approached a good friend on the NextGen committee to express my interest in joining. After a couple of years on the committee I have been nominated Chair of the NSW NextGen Committee and I am humbled by the opportunity to lead our fantastic and diverse committee in 2019.

As Chair of the Sydney NextGen Committee, what are you planning for this year?
My key focus for this year is on the professional development of our NextGen members. We are currently preparing a range of engaging events that are designed to enhance our members’ day to day performance and expand their network. We are kicking off this year with a “speed trivia” event on 13 March 2019, which is kind of like speed dating (but arguably more useful for your career progression)! I highly encourage all NextGeners to attend.

What’s the most significant trend or event happening in the turnaround and restructuring industry?
Our market is rapidly changing – we are starting to see the impacts of the law reforms introduced over the last couple of years; traditional lenders are paring back their exposures whilst alternate capital providers are gaining momentum; and the big 4 accounting firms have been very active in acquiring independent restructuring firms.

What would someone who only knows you professionally be surprised to learn about you?
I have been known to moonlight as the lead singer of a punk rock band…
