At some point each year two million Australians are in crisis, dealing with the anguish and despair of not knowing where the next meal is coming from for themselves and their families.

It’s hard to believe this is happening in the ‘lucky country’. It’s a predicament largely hidden by stigma and shame, but the reality is we’re all likely to know someone who is affected. It’s not just people on the street but people in our street.

Foodbank restores hope to people who are struggling by rescuing and sourcing food and groceries from farmers, manufacturers and retailers and distributing them to front line charities around the country to pass on to those in need.

Foodbank is the largest hunger relief organisation in Australia who, with the help of the food industry and the public, has the scale and capacity to address our country’s hunger crisis. In spite of our best efforts, however, over 40,000 people are still being turned away from charities empty handed every month due to lack of food to give them. This is why, with your help, we strive every day to do more.

Foodbank Australia is a proud member of the Global Foodbanking Network, an international organisation dedicated to developing foodbanking around the world. In Australia, Foodbank has a presence in every state and the Northern Territory with distribution centres in all state capitals as well as a number of regional centres.

How does it work

Foodbank collects surplus, salvaged and donated food and grocery products from food producers, manufacturers, distributors and retailers and distributes it to charities and community groups to disseminate to people in need. This includes products which are out of specification, close to date code, have incorrect labelling or damaged packaging as well as excess stock and deleted lines. Without Foodbank much of this food would simply go to landfill.

The food rescued by Foodbank provides on average 166,000 meals a day. To read more about Foodbank Australia - click here

Foodbank TMA

TMA Australia and Foodbank

At TMA Australia's 2017 National Conference (6-7 September), Foodbank Australia CEO, Brianna Casey announced the TMA Australia as its new charity partner.

As the nation’s is the largest hunger relief organisation giving food and groceries to vulnerable Australians, TMA Australia is proud to now be a part of its service.

The decision to choose Foodbank Australia as our charity partner was decided by the TMA Australia Board.

The following was identified by the TMA Australia Board as principal criteria for a new charity partner:

• a national presence
• a program that offered renewal, turnaround, workout or other form of outcome to assist individuals or organisations
• an organisation with non-sectarian values adding to the community
• an organisation of a scale that would value TMAA contributions
• an organisation with existing corporate partners, offering programs in which members could participate.

Foodbank TMA sponsor

TMA Australia's vision is to align our member's community investment contributions, both within their host employer and also within the TMA, at a financial, recognition and personal contribution level with Foodbank Australia.

TMA will be helping Foodbank fight hunger in Australia through fundraising initiatives, direct investments and volunteer support. TMA Australia members will have the opportunity to become involved in skilled volunteering projects with Foodbank across the country. Furthermore, TMA will also assist in raising awareness of the issue of food insecurity in Australia, and the work of Foodbank, through marketing and communications both internally and externally. All of this will enhance Foodbank’s work to restore hope to those in need.

Stay tuned for further updates.
