Join us as panelists Alison Robertson (HWL Ebsworth) and Richard Tucker (KordaMentha), Hayden White (KPMG) and Ben Gibson (Gordon Brothers) share insights, tips and tales regarding mastering the art of negotiations from their time in turnaround.
Ben Gibson (Moderator)
Director, Gordon Brothers
Ben Gibson is responsible for the leadership and oversight of Gordon Brothers’ Perth office. Ben has over 24 years of experience in the valuation and auction industry, managing large scale asset valuation and sale projects on behalf of banks, insolvency practitioners and large corporations across many industries.
Prior to joining Gordon Brothers, Ben served as the Executive Director, Restructuring and Finance for Tiger Asset Group, where he was responsible for the Restructuring & Finance service line on a national basis. Before his tenure at Tiger, he was the General Manager for the Western Australian operations of GraysOnline, one of Australia’s leading industrial equipment e-commerce participants Ben has experience across a wide range of industry sectors including Mining, Agriculture, Transport, Construction, Earthmoving, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Consumer Retail Products.
Throughout his career, Ben has personally managed over 3,000 valuation and asset disposition projects, both in Australia and internationally. Ben has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Wollongong, a Diploma of Auctioneering from the Western College of Auctioneering USA, and is a Candidate Member, American Society of Appraisers.
Alison Robertson

or more than 20 years Alison has specialised in all aspects of insolvency, reconstruction and recovery.
Alison has consistently acted for major banks, as well as mid-tier lenders, providing strategic advice, and where necessary, acting to enforce securities in the most efficient way, cognisant always of the lender’s policies toward customers.
She has also acted for insolvency practitioners, both big firm and boutique, in their various roles as receivers, administrators, and liquidators. She brings her significant experience and judgment to every aspect of external administrations.
Richard Tucker
Partner, KordaMentha
Richard’s can-do attitude has enabled him to deliver successful outcomes in some of Australia’s most complex, high-profile restructuring and insolvency appointments.
His background as an M&A banker, coupled with over 10 years’ experience in restructuring and insolvency, allows him to adopt a holistic, transactional-focused approach to assessing the options and deciding upon the best possible pathway to achieve his clients’ preferred outcome.
Richard has worked on some of Australia’s most complex and high profile restructuring engagements, involving complex stakeholder groups and often some ongoing litigation. In 2018, he was jointly awarded the Turnaround Management Association of Australia’s Restructuring Deal of the Year for the successful restructure of Paladin Energy and in 2014 received the same award for the restructure of mining giant Mirabela Nickel.
Hayden White
Partner, KPMG
Hayden joined KPMG in 2009 as a member of the Restructuring Services team specialising in financial restructuring, turnaround and corporate recovery.
As a registered and official liquidator, Hayden has considerable experience in leading formal insolvency engagements on behalf of financiers and other creditors. With experience from both the United Kingdom and Australia, Hayden regularly assists underperforming and stressed companies to develop and implement solutions for the benefit of all stakeholders.
Having strong relationships in the banking sector, Hayden has a reputation for achieving lasting value for lenders and borrowers alike, whilst managing credit and default risk.
Outside of work Hayden spends his time supporting the not-for-profit sector, raising a young family and – time permitting – getting out on his mountain bike.
