The TMA Queensland Committee invites you to join us as we hear from Dolphins’ CEO Terry Reader, who will give us an insight into the transformation journey of the Dolphins and how he and his team successfully turned a blank palette into a Top 8 NRL club in just twelve months.

The NRL’s 17th Professional football team, the Dolphins, have captured not only the competition but the hearts and minds of many south-East Queenslanders by storm.  From its origins as a successful semi-professional rugby league club based in Redcliffe, to winning the NRL’s 17th licence and being required to establish a new professional organisation, the Dolphins are currently the “darling” of the 2023 NRL season.

Guest Speaker

Terry Reader
Chief Executive Officer, Dolphins NRL

Terry is an executive leader with almost 20 years’ industry experience in Australia and the UK. He has verifiable year on year success in business optimisation, achieving profit and leading staff.

Most recently Terry led the Dolphins NRL Bid strategy and operations as Bid Director, where he built the plans around the clubs bid to be the next NRL team. This process culminated in the Dolphins being awarded the new 17th NRL license on October 13, 2021, before Terry was appointed the inaugural CEO of the Dolphins NRL to lead their set up and entry into the NRL.

Terry has overseen the building of all areas of the NRL club in a short 12-month lead in where the club has achieved some great results that have exceeded expectations on and off the field. The Dolphins are already in the top 3 of NRL clubs across all commercial areas in their first season including being #2 in sponsorship revenue, #3 in memberships and #1 for merchandise sales. The club has also achieved the largest average crowd in the NRL for home games while the team on the field recorded 4 wins and 2 losses after the first quarter of the season so far in 2023.

Reader has extensive sports experience having also been part of the senior leadership team at the Brisbane Broncos during his 16 years with the Broncos along with time he spent at the Brisbane Lions.

At the Broncos, Reader’s roles included Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Commercial Officer, playing an integral role in organisational change, working with teams to achieve growth within business units that exceeded $34 million in annual commercial revenue.

Reader was seconded by the Broncos to the Norths Devils, where he restructured the Club in a journey that led to the Devils being named club champions in 2018 before joining the board once he returned to the Broncos and seeing the Devils win their first QCUP premiership in 23 years.
