Join your peers in the distressed debt and restructuring community for a live webinar on Thursday 27 August, co-hosted by DebtwireMergermarket and the TMA Australia.

As we head into the latter half of the year, government stimulus and capital raisings have provided companies with a lifeline. However, with stimulus packages starting to wind up in Australia and globally, there is anticipation that a transition is due in the next couple of months. Questions remain on the ability to accurately forecast business performance and manage financing and create an investment thesis on how to turnaround businesses.

Our panel discusses the potential and the pitfalls to look out for:

  • In comparison with the last crisis (GFC), what are the predominant features of distressed situations this time around?  How many are purely induced by COVID-19, or already struggling even without the pandemic, which just accelerated their demise?
  • Is the safe harbour temporary relief from insolvent trading just creating a bigger problem for the future?
  • How are directors navigating the current landscape?
  • s there a tsunami of special opportunities on the horizon as liquidity tightens for corporates?
  • Will the regulatory requirements to impair and the resulting cost of capital see an increase in debt trading and NPL sales?
  • Will corporates and lenders use these times as an opportunity to reset through schemes, DOCAs and credit bids –?
  • Is there an increased level of creativity in the Australian market when it comes to restructuring? Should Corporate Australia seek to reform the current legislative framework?
