Kellie Link, Partner at Norton Rose Fulbright (WA)

What do you enjoy most about working in the turnaround industry?
i enjoy the variety that comes with working in the turnaround space. Each matter brings a new business to understand and new challenges to overcome. I find the strategy behind analysing the position of a distressed entity, working through the legal issues and then developing turnaround solutions exciting. It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of a broader team working to achieve positive results for clients and stakeholders.

How did you get involved in the TMA?
Initially, I got involved in TMA through the training and networking functions. They’re a great opportunity to upskill and hear insights from practitioners leading the field. The networking for people of all levels is invaluable – it’s a great way to get started and something I think our industry does particularly well. You can never know too many people, and growing your network is such an important part of what we do. Through functions like that I met my peers in the banking space and accounting firms and at other law firms. We have effectively ‘grown up’ together, and now as we start to transition to more senior roles, we have developed authentic relationships that are not only good for business but make the work we do so enjoyable.

What would someone who only knows you professionally be surprised to learn about you?
I grew up in Albany moved up to the ‘big city’ Perth to attend university. I am still very much a country girl at heart and a keen horse rider. When I’m not at work you’ll find me in a paddock fencing or looking after my collection of animals. At the moment my partner and I have 2 dogs, 2 horses, 2 mini goats and 10 sheep at home – but there is always room for more!

What is the best piece of professional advice you’ve ever been given?
Be commercial, responsive and good to deal with. There are a lot of people out there who can provide similar legal services, but if you are commercial in your approach, responsive to clients and good to deal with it makes engaging you an easy decision
